REWARD INCREASED TO $10,000 IN BOULDER COUNTY POACHING CASE
Concerned citizens working with the Colorado Division of Wildlife’s Operation Game Thief (OGT) program have increased a substantial cash reward for information leading to an arrest or a citation being issued in the illegal killing of an elk in Boulder County.
A large bull elk was shot on private property (Caribou Ranch) near County Road 126, west of State Highway 72, in Boulder County on September 12th or 13th, 2006. Only the head and small part of the meat were taken from the elk. The majority of the elk was left to rot.
Operation Game Thief is a Colorado Division of Wildlife program, which pays rewards to citizens who turn in poachers. You can call us toll-free within Colorado at 1-877-COLO-OGT; Verizon cell phone users can dial #OGT, or contact us via e-mail at game.thief@state.co.us.
Alternately a license and/or preference points might also be rewarded under certain circumstances via the Turn in Poachers (TIPS) program. Through TIPS, people are eligible for such rewards for reporting illegal take or possession or willful destruction of wildlife; however the reporting party must be willing to testify. The reporting party may not receive both a TIPS reward and a cash OGT reward for the same incident. Callers can remain anonymous if they wish and may be eligible for an OGT reward rather than a reward through the TIPS program. Call 1-877-COLO-OGT (1-877-265-2648) to report any suspicious activity.
