Officials Seeking Information About Deer Killing

The Colorado Division of Wildlife is looking for information about a deer killed at the Rampart Shooting Range just west of Colorado Springs.

The dead deer was discovered Thursday, August 23 by Forest Service employees and volunteers from Fort Carson who were doing a clean-up project at the range.

Moffat, Routt Elk Management Meeting Set

The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) is interested in hearing from the public about management of two important elk herds in northwest Colorado. Public input is critical in helping revise these management plans, called Data Analysis Unit or DAU plans. DAU plans establish population objectives and set goals for male-female ratios within populations.

Hunting small game in Eastern Colorado

Join the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) for a free evening seminar to explain the Walk-in Access program that provides small game hunters with places to hunt in Eastern Colorado. Learn about places to hunt in the northeastern and southeastern parts of the state, with a particular focus on dove season. Biologists and wildlife managers will provide information on dove hunting, how to best use the walk-in access program, and a short update on new regulations. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.

Fire planned for Oak Ridge during fall

Meeker, Colo. – People may see smoke coming from the Oak Ridge State Wildlife Area this fall as the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service conduct a prescribed burn to improve wildlife habitat, reduce wildland fire hazard, and increase shrub age diversity.

DOW offering reward for information about Bondad poaching incident

The Colorado Division of Wildlife is offering a $1,000 reward for information about a bull elk that was recently killed near Bondad on the west side of U.S. Highway 550.

The elk was a mature bull with large 6 x 6 antlers in full velvet. It was shot near a gas well pad, said Stephanie Schuler, district wildlife manager for the DOW.

The elk was still alive when it was spotted by a man working on the well pad on July 29. The elk was lying down with its head up. The man noticed blood on the animal and could see that it had been shot. The DOW was notified of the incident.

Texans hunt, Florida residents fish

According to preliminary state-by-state data from the new 2006 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting and Wildlife-Associated Recreation, Montanans were on average most likely to hunt, Alaskans and Minnesotans were most likely to fish; and residents of Maine are most likely to observe, photograph or feed wildlife, during 2006. In terms of total numbers, Texas led the nation with 1.1 million residents hunting at some point during the year, while Florida led in total fishing participation with 2.8 million anglers. California saw 6.2 million of its residents observe wildlife in 2006.
